questions To Ask

Before Selecting Your Stone Material

To help ensure that you find the absolute best fit for your renovation, here are some of the best questions to ask before selecting a countertop.

Budget

Are you working within a set budget? While it may be tempting to opt for the highest-quality countertops, if they fall outside of your budget it can leave you with feelings of buyer’s remorse.

Space

If your home is full of life and your countertops are expected to be used regularly, opting for a more durable option may be best for you. For those who live exceptionally busy lifestyles, finding a material that requires less maintenance is essential!

style

While the functionality of your countertops is extremely important, so is the style! With the right approach, you can ensure that your new countertops enhance your space perfectly. While shopping for countertops, we suggest bringing paint chips, samples of flooring and any other elements within your space that could have an impact on the final look.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

When you choose natural stone for your kitchen, you are selecting a product that can last longer than your home, with minimal maintenance requirements. Granite, one of the hardest stones in nature, is a good choice for kitchen countertops and islands, thanks to its durability and heat resistance. This natural stone can meet the demands of the busiest kitchen without showing signs of wear. No two slabs of granite are alike. The stone’s unique pattern and elegance is another reason why granite countertops are a popular choice.

A: The average length of a slab is about 113” and if it runs longer than this, it may require a seam for industry and structural standards. For safety requirements, pieces weighing more than 550 lbs may require a seam. Other factors that may require a countertop to have a seam include:

  • Weight of material
  • Cabinet structure
  • Access to job
  • Type of material

Lind On Homes will work to ensure that seams are kept to a minimum and are discretely placed, while maintaining the structural integrity of the stone. Seam location and the quantity of seams may affect pricing.

Lind On Homes will handle the demo of your existing space.  All you need to do is clear all items from the countertop area, including appliances and items stored underneath, and make sure the entrance to the home is cleared and there is a path to the space where the install will take place.

The only way to ensure the look of an entire slab of stone is to view it in its entirety to be aware of any colour and pattern variations.  The small sample tiles of stone simply can not capture the exact nature of the real thing.

A: 3cm granite weighs approximately 21-24 lbs per square foot and 2cm granite weighs approximately 20-30 lbs per square foot based on the density of the stone. Granite is easily supported by standard floor and cabinet systems.

A: Quartz countertops are just as strong as granite, if not more so in many cases. Quartz is non-porous and does not require sealing. Quartz countertops are virtually no-maintenance, and are a great alternative to marble with many colours available that mimic the look of marble stones like calacatta and carrara, without the worry of staining and scratching.

A: Granite is the hardest and densest of all the natural stones and quartz and solid surface (Corian) are also extremely hard, as well as scratch and stain resistant. Since these products are highly durable and scratch resistant, they are the first choice for kitchen countertops. Bakers favour stone countertops over other types because it’s the best surface for rolling out and manipulating dough.

A. Yes. We do not subcontract or outsource any part of the process. You will deal directly with Lind On Homes employees every step of the way. We will provide complete one-on-one consultation, guidance, and design expertise.  We aim to make the process fun and easy for our customers, with hassle-free sales, service, and support.

When you plan a new bathroom or a renovation, the materials can make all the difference. The stone’s unique veining combined with spectacular colours makes it a real focal point of any room where it’s installed. By choosing marble for this room, you can enhance its total look. The amazing texture of marble can totally transform a space. Which is the easiest way to achieve this? A white marble basin merged with timber or a wall clad in marble will add a modern look to your bathroom. Your marble bathroom will look incredible for many years!

A: Though not necessary, all granites are sealed. The sealer used is a penetrating sealer that does not change the colour of the stone. It penetrates the stone and will help prevent any staining. However, it will not stop the penetration of moisture entirely. When a liquid that might cause staining spills on the granite, it should be cleaned up as soon as possible.

A: At the users distcresion, but yes, granite is ideal for kitchens because under normal conditions it will not burn. Granite will not be harmed by hot pots, pans, or open flames.

A. “First Quality!” There are different grades of stone in the market today. While they appear similar, there are color, structure, and quality differences that dictate how the stone is graded at the quarry.  When browsing in a suppliers inventory always look for the highest quality stone… “First Choice” or “First Quality.”
